These voltage regulators depend on the relative insensitivity to current of the voltage drop across a gas discharge in a noble gas. Various gas mixtures are used to produce tubes with voltage drops of 85 to 150 volts. Typical operating current ranges from 1 to 50 mA. The higher current types, e.g. G180/2M (max current 45 mA) can be used to directly regulate the anode supply of a low power item. Others with maximum current ratings of 10 mA or less are used in conjunction with a power valve to regulate a higher current supply.
