Orange River valley, about 20 km. E of Sendelingdrif - approximately 28°3'10.79"S 17°1'17.95"E 05/Aug/2007 08:34

This plant has ferocious spines on pale yellowish-grey succulent stems. The leaves, arranged in pairs at the spine bases, are fan shaped with a wavy margin. Apart from the leaf shape and the flower colour this is very similar to Monsonia patersonii. They were both growing in a flat area close to the C13 in the Orange River valley. This is Monsonia (Sarcocaulon) crassicaule Rehm, the Bushman's Candle See this page.
