The very hard nuts of this tree, known as 'vegetable ivory', are etched by many Namibians and offered for sale at every stop. If you are asked for your name, you will soon be offered a nut bearing your name. It is also known as the Real Fan Palm or the Vegetable Ivory Palm. Found in the north and north-east of Namibia. The palms of Palmwag are Makalanis.
