Each year for as long as can be remembered the people of Ottery St. Mary in Devon have celebrated Guy Fawkes night (November 5th.) by carrying blazing tar barrels through the streets. Starting at dusk, 17 barrels are carried, each sponsored by one of the village pubs. The barrels start small (ish) carried by the boys, then the ladies and finally the men. The midnight barrel is the largest. Here are some photos of the 2004 celebrations.
