OBITUARY - COLSTON TOOGOOD G3TNP

Colston Toogood, a quiet self effacing and thoughtful man, became interested in Amateur Radio in the late 1950's as a foil to his profession of quantity surveying. He became a member of the RSGB at that time, joining Bristol Amateur Radio Club at its inception and gaining the knowledge to obtain his callsign in 1964. His radio interests soon shifted from HF to VHF and he became one of the select local band of experimenters who found fascination in ingenious home-brewed 'plumbing' construction techniques, thereby contributing to the groundwork from which today's 'black boxes', so lightly accepted, have developed.

A countryman at heart, the latter half of his life was spent in the Winford area where eventually, in retirement, his time was divided between the twin loves of horticulture and radio, his interests extending through computer techniques to RTTY, packet radio and SSTV.

Colston died after a short illness on 27th December, 1987, aged 71.
